Impact Temple Shelter Response to COVID-19

Impact Temple Church, with help from community partners, is opening a shelter for people experiencing homelessness and showing symptoms of COVID-19. This shelter allows us to support our neighbors by providing a comfortable place to sleep, healthy meals, and a clean living space while they recover. Together, we can love our vulnerable neighbors and slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

Volunteers are the key to the shelter’s success. We are looking for volunteers to serve in these key areas:

Attendants – Attendants serve the shelter by being present and responsive, ensuring that guests have what they need for a safe and comfortable stay. They may also be called upon to perform custodial duties.
Medical Support – Medical support volunteers are medical professionals (nurses, medical doctors, EMTs) who will be present at the shelter, providing care, medical support, and, in the event that it’s needed, emergency response. Medical support volunteers also serve as attendants, serving a variety of needs within the shelter. Please sign up as a medical support volunteer only if you are a trained, experienced medical professional.
Security – Security volunteers keep shelter guests and volunteers safe by patrolling the Impact property, ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures, maintaining an incidence log, and “sounding the alarm” in case of emergencies. We are particularly hopeful that people in law enforcement or who have professional security experience will serve in this capacity.
Custodian – Custodian service will be needed once a day in the Impact shelter to clean and disinfect surfaces, do laundry, and perform other services as needed.
Meals – In order to ensure the health and well-being of our guests, the Impact Shelter will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner. Volunteers will sign up to provide these meals. Please keep in mind that the shelter is a place of health and well-being, so we request that provided meals be nutritious and not contain high levels of sugar or sodium.

Volunteer Requirements

Age 18 to 65
Must demonstrate dependability and responsible conduct
Must be in good health, without high-risk medical conditions. The CDC identifies high-risk patients as people with chronic lung disease or asthma; serious heart conditions; immunocompromised due to disease or treatment; sever obesity; diabetes; chronic kidney disease; liver disease. (Does not apply to meal providers.)
Must not be pregnant. (Does not apply to meal providers.)
